Postinfectious retinopathy – Case Presentation of a 16-years Old Boy

Purpose: Retinopathy can be one of the late complication of viral infections in children and adults. The author presents unilateral pathological changes of the fundus of the eye in 16 years old healthy boy. The follow-up time was 5 years.
Results: The patient complined of worseing of vision ans metamorphopsia. Visual acuity of the rigth eye was 5/12, peripherical visual field was normal and stable, Amsler test was positive, color vision tests were normal. No pathological changes in anterior part of the eye-ball and no vitritis were observed. On the fundus of the eye there was single round yelowish lesion (1DD) in the region of macula, originally with some subretinal haemorrhages. The initial diagnosis was Best disease and because of it fluorescein angiography, green indocyanine angiography, electroretinography, electrooculography and genetic conseling were performed. The diagnosis was not confirmed. The fluorescein angiography picture showed a maculopathy from fibrotic macular scar. Some other selected laboratory tests: connected with Toxoplasma Gondii, Toxacara, Histoplasmosis and chest X-ray were done.
Conclusions: Because of prior rubeola infection, the antibodies against rubeola were done and high level of IgG were found (71UI/ml). The diagnosis of postinfectious rubeola retinopahty was established.
