Abstract
Abstract

Retinal Arterial Collapse Pressure in Eyes with Retinal Arterial Occlusive Diseases

Niessen A.
Universitäts-Augenklinik Mannheim

Purpose: To determine the collapse pressure of the central retinal artery and central retinal vein in eyes with temporary or permanent retinal arterial occlusions.
Method: The study included 9 eyes of 7 patients with central or branch retinal artery occlusion, ischemic ophthalmopathy, or amaurosis fugax; and 27 eyes of 21 subjects of an age-matched control group. With topical anesthesia, a new ophthalmodynamometer consisting of a conventional Goldmann contact lens with a pressure sensor in its holding grip was put onto the cornea. Pressure was applied onto the globe by pressing the contact lens, and the pressure value at the time when the central retinal artery and vein started pulsating were noted. Main outcome measures were central retinal artery and central retinal vein collapse pressure, measured in relative units.
Results: In the study group, central retinal artery collapse pressure was significantly (p=0.004) lower than in the control group (43.9 ±33.4 rel. units versus 78.0 Zurück | Back
