Abstract

The Computerized Patient Record as a Multimedia Basis for Discussion, Teaching and Research in Virtual und Real Patient Care

Bialasiewicz A. A., Breidenbach K., Mampatta V.
Dept. of Ophthalmology, SQU, University of Oman, Muscat/MAO

Purpose: The multimedial interactive digitalized electronic international standardized medical patient record (international computerized patient record, ICPR) is the basis for optimal web-based patient care. It is desirable to develop a treatment simulation for the ICPR and an implementation of the ICPR as an asset for teaching and research in a quality management system (QMS).
Method: The ICPR developed by us includes as textmodules forms for the standardized (ICD 10) diagnosis, history, clinical findings, surgery (ICPM-OPS301) and postOP follow-ups, consultation, laboratory data and as digitalized imaging: photography of anterior and posterior segment for adults, RetCam for children, videoangiography, perimetry, topography and confocal corneal analysis, papillometry, OCT, histopathology sections and surgical films or extracts. Digitalized pictures from instruments without an internet plug are transferred via CD-ROM to the ICPR. The treatment simulation of specific diseases can be done by the PixEyes® system. The QMS ISO 9001:2000 is implemented for ICPR, teaching and research.
Results: All text and imaging data of a patient can be retrieved at any time and any electronic work place without loss of time by an individual hospital record
