Abstract

Treatment of Persistent Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSC) with Transpupillary Thermotherapy. A Case Report

Purpose: Transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) is a proven therapy for small choroidal melanomas and occult subretinal neovascularisations. We present a case of persistent CSC successfully treated with TTT.
Method: A 43 years old male patient suffered for two years from undulating metamorphopsia, central scotoma on his left eye. The serous retinal detachment in the posterior pole was caused by chorioretinal leakage in the papillomacular bundle also causing circumscribed PED, as diagnosed by fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT). After 2 years with symptoms the detached area was treated with TTT (3 mm, 400 mW, 35 sec.). The patient was followed every 4 weeks for 9 months.
Results: The symptoms disappeared by the second follow-up visit after two months. The gradual resolution of detachment was documented by OCT.
Conclusions: In selected cases, the CSC with central leakage can be treated with TTT.
